Protecting documents with multiple accounts

I'm trying to restrict editing on a few documents at work, and I'm wondering if it's possible to have multiple accounts that have permission to lock and unlock the originals. So far, I've been the only one able to edit the original, but I need two of my coworkers to be able to access the full version. Has anyone come across this before or is it a lost cause?
