Once Publisher disappears...help please.
Which version of Office do you have today? If you have a perpetual (non-subscription) license which includes Publisher, such as Office Professional 2021, you will be able to use Publisher beyond 2026.
Compatibility will likely be an issue over the following years. Converting *.pub to other formats isn't going to be an easy task, or at least it will be a time-consuming task, as you already know. I recommend that you send feedback to Microsoft, using the portal at https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback.
I am running M365.
It appears the only way to do what i want to do is open each PUB doc and copy/paste everythng onto a WORD doc.
At least I have 15mn to get it all sorted

Since you have a subscription, you will lose Publisher some time after October 2026. An updated version in the fall will remove that program.
At the moment, Microsoft seems to offer nothing more than copy & paste into Word documents, and that will be very time-consuming of course. I made a brief test with one of the open source alternatives, and while it can open Publisher files, it doesn't appear to handle linked text boxes, for example.

I have different 'types' of PUB docs. The main issue is with book covers that I have. The front, back, inside front and inside back all have a lot of photos on them. Some are changed from year to year and some are kept. It appears from my first try that I can open a PUB doc with the photos and have a blank WORD doc next to it. Then click on a photo from the PUB doc, right click, copy and then transfer it across to the blank WORD doc. Time consuming I know but it seem that this is the only way to do it....
The mazority of files are just single page documents ( why they are on PUB and not WORD I cannot say ) and they can be opened, copied and then pasted onto a WORD page.
I BL**DY hate change.

Thanks for the follow-up. It does seem like a terribly tedious task. :-(
I am hoping that Microsoft will provide a way to make the conversion smoother.
