My page break isn't working for me to add my pages on my research. Tech tried and no success

I got this email from tech support. My page break is not working and it does not allow me to add pages. When I click to add the page number and go to the layout to add the page numbers the icon is off and I can't press it. Can someone help me with this? I have a research paper due and I really need help.
