Link numbers in text to each other
Is there a way to make sure one number in my text will always equal another number? For example, in my text I say "In Figure 2......" Can I link this 2 to always be the same number that my figure number is? That way if I would happen to add a figure before this and I change the figure number to 3, the text will then automatically read "In Figure 3....."
A situation similar to setting a cell equal to another cell in excel is what I'm thinking of.
Thanks for the help!

Have you considered using the Insert a Caption feature under the References tab? It handles the numbering using a Seq field and allows for easy preparation of a Table of Figures.
You can then use the Insert Cross-References feature to add your number that was used. These do update. You may have to shift to print preview to see the update or take other measures to update fields.
