line spacing
- Mar 07, 2026
The formatting issue arises because Microsoft Word interprets the pasted checkmarks as custom bullet symbols. When you press Enter, Word inserts a new paragraph with its default spacing rather than continuing the existing list format. To resolve this, you should adjust the bullet list settings and line spacing options within Word to ensure consistency across all items.

When the bullet symbols are large they will affect the Line Spacing. You can work around this by setting a fixed value for the spacing. Choose the "Exactly" option in the Paragraph dialog box and specify a fixed value in points (some trial and error may be required to find the appropriate value).
Note that Spacing Before/After will also affect the distance between baselines.
Also, to ensure that you have only pressed Enter once in between list items, display nonprinting marks (click the ΒΆ icon on the Home tab).
A screen shot would provide a clearer picture of what you are dealing with, as I suggested a couple of weeks ago.
