Lagging cursor in Word while using arrow keys
Seeing this post, I also tested. Only occurs if two or more Word documents are open.
For me, I want to clarify that when I press the arrow keys there is no delay in when the cursor starts moving across the line the of text. It's just that if I hold the arrow key down for more than a second, when I lift my finger off the key, the input cursor continues to move, sometimes up to a second afterwards and cannot be stopped. Doesn't sound bad, but it actually makes it very hard to edit documents.
I am using Microsoft Apps 365 enterprise 64 bit.
zandvaki is anyone else using either mendeley or zotero plugins (or both)? I tried opening word in safe mode, and the lag doesn't seem to happen anymore. I wonder if it is due to one of these plugins.
- zandvakiAug 07, 2021Copper ContributorYes, I am using Mendeley plugin. I have not tried disabling it yet, but next time I have a large Word file to edit I will try. I am sure that is problem based on all the comments here.
- Kim_DoAug 09, 2021Brass ContributorIf you are like me, and Mendeley is life, then this is the "fix" Mendeley has provided to me (however, I have not tried it yet because uninstalling and reinstalling Word/Office isn't an option for me):
1. Create a copy of your manuscript if there is any and uninstall Word
2. Uninstall Mendeley Word plug-in from the Tools Tab in Mendeley
3. Uninstall Mendeley Desktop.
4. Reboot device/machine.
5. Reinstall Mendeley Desktop 1.19.8: https://www.mendeley.com/autoupdates/installers/1.19.8
6. Reinstall Word
7. Reinstall Word Plug in from the Tools Tab in Mendeley- PavelNesmiyanovDec 19, 2021Copper ContributorThank you! I removed desktop Mendeley and then reinstalled it and installed Mendeley Cite. It works OK so far
- hatipoglu61Aug 07, 2021Copper ContributorThanks. Disabling the Mendeley plugin fixed this issue for me
- DucPhamJul 28, 2021Brass ContributorI tried unloading the mendeley plugin in word and the problem solved.
- matteodefeliceOct 10, 2021Copper Contributorthanks, disabling Mendeley solved my issue.

Uninstalling MS Word Plugin from the Mendeley desktop works for me too, no more cursor lag on the second word file. If you need to work with Mendeley, install Mendeley Reference Manager and the Mendeley Cite for Microsoft Word Plugin.
- Kim_DoJul 28, 2021Brass ContributorIndeed, if you search for "word cursor lag and mendeley", it seems that other people have come to the conclusion that it is their plugin that is causing this issue. However, I cannot yet find a workaround that allows us to keep mendeley.
