Is it possible to use a Power BI measure/value in a Word Field?

I have a complex dataset in the Power BI Service. It's got all of the measures I need to put dynamic values into the text boxes in Power BI itself, but I have a use-case for putting those dynamic values into content and tables in Word. I'd like to end up with a paragraph containing things like "There were 128 cases of meningococcal B this month which compares with 135 in the same time period last year."

Can someone point me in the right direction please - I'm not finding anything relevant in the search engines.

    Hi MarkNurse,

To answer your question directly, it is not possible to use a Power BI measure/value in a Word Field. Word Fields are used to insert dynamic data into Word documents, but they only support data from a limited set of sources, such as Excel spreadsheets, databases, and web pages. Power BI is not one of the supported sources.

There are a few workarounds that you can use to accomplish what you want.

One option is to export your Power BI report to Word. This will create a Word document that contains all of the data in your report, including the measures and values. Once you have exported the report to Word, you can then edit the text boxes and tables in the Word document as needed.

Another option is to use the Power BI REST API to retrieve the measure/value from Power BI and then insert it into a Word Field. However, this is a more technical solution, and it requires some knowledge of programming and the Power BI REST API.

Finally, you can also use a third-party Power BI integration tool to insert measures and values from Power BI into Word. There are a number of different tools available, and some of them offer free trials.
