Insert equation elements do not highlight in dotted lines black but in an invisible yellow

While working on a math document the insertion of an equation, for example exponential terms, provides a black dotted outline for each block. Suddenly the color of these boxes has become yellowish which, against a white background makes them invisible.

Does anyone know how to reset them to the default colour?
