Importing to template and applying styles cause incorrect text display
YaoXiao1890 If the font size had been changed by direct formatting, you would need to re-apply the style so that it conforms to the font size defined in the Style. On a Windows computer you can do that by selecting all of the text and then pressing CTRL+SHIFT. On a Mac, the equivalent may be CMD+SHIFT, but that is just a guess.

I've made this temporary folder. Right now Word can't even display the plain text document anymore, so please see "text.pdf" for the text I tried importing. Once I do that, check "imported_incorrect.docx" to see what it looks like. However, I've done this multiple times, and somehow "for_some_reason_this_works.docx" displays correctly. However, there's still something wrong with this document. If I reapply certain styles it will display as the incorrect file.
I opened the docx files on Dropbox and it displayed fine. You'll get the error if you try opening it with Word on Mac. So there must be some conflicts between something in this file and Word on Mac.
I manage the citations in the documents with Endnote. Also in the folder is the .enl and the .Data folder. I suspect that there could be some conflicts between the Endnote field codes and the template.
One more thing is that I used to work on this document on Windows. That being said I used a Windows template from that journal and did this just fine. Recently I switched to Mac, and now I'm repeating this process with the Mac template from that journal, which is the *mac.dotx in the folder. I also suspect that there could be some conflicts between Windows and MacOS setting.

YaoXiao1890 I do not see the issues when viewing the document on a Windows computer. However, it all appears to be in the normal style, rather that the styles that are set up in the template. I would also note that the template does not appear to have the full range of styles that would be required and there is an unnecessary proliferation of styles that are formatted the same such as the BD Abstract and TA_Main_Text.
I've played a little bit more with the problematic document:
So now I edit the font size of my normal style. It fails with certain sizes such as 12, and works with other sizes such as 14. Are you aware of any underlying issues that may cause this?
I only have this problem opening the document on MacOS, not on Windows.

Now I fixed it. I installed a font (Arno Pro) and restarted my machine, and the problem was gone. It's not clear though whether it was the reboot or the font installation or both that fixed the issue.
Anyway, my problem is now resolved. Thank you very much for your assistance.
