Recently I am getting the message "WORD did not save the document C:\...\AutoRecovery save of..." This happens when I am working on large WORD documents, of about 700 pages. I have gotten the message when using WORD on two computers, in different locations. I have worked on these large documents for months without getting this message. I will appreciate advice.

This error usually stems from file corruption or disk space issues during the temp file creation. Try disabling "Background saves" in Options > Advanced, or Save As a new filename to reset the file structure. Large docs often choke on fragmented metadata; a quick "Open and Repair" usually fixes it.

Charles,
Thank you for your response. Yes, I am using the desktop WORD application. The WORD crashing has just started on this document, for some reason. If I understand you correctly, you are suggesting that I use Ctrl+S regularly and that I use the tool by Graham Mayor. If you have any other advice, please tell me.

If it is one document, it may be "corrupt." Create a new document with the same page size. Open the old document and go to the end of the document. Press the Enter key once when you are at the end.
Make sure that you have display of non-printing formatting characters turned on. Use the Show/Hide button on the Home tab.
Copy everything from the old document except that new paragraph mark and paste into the new document.

Charles,
Thanks for your reply. I did not know that a WORD document could become "corrupt." I learn something new every day.

The message is a warning.
Ctrl+S is your friend. Use regularly.
AutoRecovery is intended for times when Word crashes or you shut off your computer without saving.
Automatically backup Word documents by Graham Mayor, MVP.
I assume that with an important document you are using the desktop application for all editing.
