How to Format Text in Mail Merge Name Badges
EagleHeart Don't be put off by the appearance/layout of the Mergefields when you change the point size to 64pt. As long as you have the text alignment set to Center, that is how the result will appear.
If you cannot get it sorted out, upload a copy of the mail merge main document to a sharing site, such as OneDrive or Dropbox so that we can take a look at it.
- EagleHeartFeb 25, 2023Copper ContributorWhile I am at it, a handful of names out of the 300 or so that I will be producing are too long to print at 72 px, and when I do labels by hand, I cut them back to 64 px. Is it possible to create a macro that takes a character count, or total space used, for each name, such that the font size could be adjusted automatically in the label merge?
Many thanks.- Feb 25, 2023
It would be easier to manipulate the data in Excel to separate out the records that need to be merged with a font size of 64 pt and then perform a separate merge after reducing the font size in the mail merge main document.
For appearance purposes however, I would recommend that you create all of the name badges using the same size font.

Thank you for this information. After reading your post that I would format in the "normal" way, I realized that something had to be different from the labels created by hand. Interestingly enough, although the font and size were identical, leaving the default settings for line spacing and paragraph spacing, this worked OK in the hand created labels but failed in the merge labels, causing the last name to "disappear". By adjusting the paragraph to move closer to the top of each table cell, and decreasing the line spacing, I was able to duplicate my hand created labels.
Thank you for your help.
