Not sure if this will work for everyone, but after a lot of searching this solution worked for me. Following these steps will set the default word layout so you don't have to change the zoom on a per document basis.
- Close all word documents and open a new blank document
- Go to View in the ribbon
- Select "Print Layout" in Views
- Select "One Page" in Zoom
- Set your desired zoom value (I did 100%)
- Go to File > Save As > Browse
- In the Save as type dropdown select "Word Macro-Enabled Template (*.dotm)"
- Name the file "Normal.dotm"
- The file should be saved in Documents > Custom Office Templates (My computer did this step my default"
- Save the document
This should set the default layout to the old one page style unless you manually change it for that document
Hope this helps :)
