how create - a protected- word file containing links from an excel file

Good morning.. My problem is:- I created a word file with updatable links from an excel file (I said links and not hyperlinks)… by default I wanted to protect that word file (except the updatable links fields)through editing restriction option which I succeeded to do it, but unfortunately after restricting editing in some areas in the word file, word marks that file as (read only) so excel fails to update links..
