Generated TOC, when using RD field code, yields every page as page 1
Doug_Robbins_Word_MVP Unfortunately I cannot as these are proprietary and confidential to my company. I will say that I can create one simple document with multiple pages and a separate TOC document (both files attached) with the following field codes:
{ RD "Chapter.docx" \f }
{ TOC CHAPTER \O "1-4" \H \Z \T " }
You will notice that the Chapter TOC generates the proper page numbers; the Document TOC shows all page numbers as 1.
I just don't get it. 🙂
HowardPitchon Instead of
{ TOC CHAPTER \O "1-4" \H \Z \T " }
you need to use
{ TOC CHAPTER.docx \O "1-4" \H \Z \T " }
Then, after updating the TOC, you will get
- Myself and everyone else I've worked with in our company is having this same issue, although we haven't uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365; we did try going through and uninstalling and reinstalling the apps, though. Nothing has changed. Something is most definitely wrong.

Hi Doug_Robbins_Word_MVP, I appreciate that. I've attached test documents. Newtest0 has the barebones TOC and the RD field codes are at the back end of the file. You can see that I made the headers include what page they are on and also whether it follows a section break or page break. In Newtest02, you'll see that the section on page 7 has the pagination set specifically to page 7 (rather than continue from previous section). Bottom line is that the first chapter is all "1" and then the second chapter, which I told it to start on page 5, shows 5s until the section break on 7; then it is 7s (it would be 1s if I have it set to continue page numbering from previous section), and then after the next section break, you'll see page 8 (set to continue from previous section) and on come up as 1s.
- At the same time I placed the full file name in the TOC field code, my IT person decided to uninstall and reinstall Office 365 on my PC. Take your pick, my issue went away. All is right with the world.
