Footnote problem
Thanks for the follow-up with the version info & operating system.
In a full version of Word, footnotes and endnotes should be visible in the Print Layout view.
See if copying the document content, excluding the final paragraph mark (ΒΆ) of the document, into a new, blank document will overcome the issue.

I checked the print view and copied the text into the new document. Unfortunately it didn't work. The footnotes of that one section are still gone.
I am sending a file with a copy of my master's thesis, if you could look at it, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the sample document. In section 1.3, the footnote markers are not true footnotes; they are just superscript text (which explains why there is no corresponding footnote paragraphs at the bottom of the page). You can tell if you start at a fully functioning footnote and then search for the next footnote; the superscript text in section 1.3 will NOT be found.

Unfortunately, I don't know what may have happened to the document and why these notes are lost.
