Equation Editor No Longer Automatically Renders LaTeX Commands
In Word's Equation Editor, LaTeX-style commands used to render automatically as I typed. For example, in the past, if I opened the Equation Editor (by pressing Alt +), and then I entered 3^2 followed by the space bar, this would immediately format the 2 as an exponent (i.e. a superscript), while keeping the equation box open. Now this now longer happens - to get the expression to render, I have to press Enter, which closes the equation box.
That's not such a big deal for 3^2, but it is a royal pain when dealing with longer mathematical expressions.
This issue occurs on multiple computers and persists even after repairing Office, resetting preferences, reinstalling, and rolling back to previous versions.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known fix?

In Insert → Formula → Enter LaTeX code in the formula box and press spacebar to trigger rendering, no effect check if Microsoft Formula Editor is enabled.
