Em Dash short cut not working in Word

I am using Windows 11 Pro on my Lenovo P14 laptop, and Windows 11 on my HP Pavillion x360.

I often write in Word and insert Em dashes. CTRL+ALT+"-" (shortcut). Both machines have this setting automatically in Word's built-in shortcuts, however the Lenovo machine ignores the shortcut sequence and inserts nothing (the HP works fine).

I have reinstalled the OS and Office Pro 16 MS Word on Lenovo, and nothing helps. Any suggestions?

If you select Em Dash from the Common Symbols Category of the Customize Keyboard dialog on the Lenovo, what appears in Current keys Control?

If you have that symbol selected, you can assign a new shortcut key to it as shown above.

Hi Doug. I see what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. It's just that my HP laptop (which also does not have a numeric keypad) shows Alt+Ctrl+Num - (my mistake before), and it works just fine without any modifications. I'll give your suggestion a try on the Lenovo and let you know how it works. As an aside, my old Acer worked fine without using the numeric keyboard (which it did have). Thank you!!!
