Editing a password protected document in iPhone

I have a password-protected Word document that I need to keep on my iPhone for reference. I can open it and view it but cannot edit it when I need to, even though I am logged into Word. The pencil always stays grayed out.. My only recourse is to edit the document on my PC and download it to the iPhone. If I am not signed in to Word and I tap on the document, Word asks for the password to open the document, which I provide. The document opens, but I am not able to edit. I cannot sign in to edit. If I first sign into Word, I select the document, tap on it and Word asks for the password to open the document, which I provide. The document opens, but I am not able to edit. I am signed in to Word, but cannot edit. Same as when I am not signed it! What is the problem? Is there a work around???

Thanks for any comments and or suggestions!!

  • There are many things that cannot be done on devices like an iPhone, but can be done in the Desktop Application and perhaps editing a password protected document is one of them. You could use the Feedback facility under Help in the Desktop Application to raise the issue with Microsoft.
