Any time you paste from one program into another, you will have formatting anomalies. Sometimes these are hardly noticeable; other times they seem devastating.
Generally the best results come from pasting as plain text and then doing the formatting in Word using styles.
When you paste as plain text, Word will use the paragraph style for the location into which you are pasting that text, which will be the Normal style if you have not been using styles.
Even if you have been using styles, the paste option is not to use destination formatting, but rather destination styles. If you paste from another program, Word can't really figure out which text goes with which style.
