Can I remove Modern Comments and revert back?
- Feb 22, 2022
Send feedback to Microsoft to let them know what you think about the so-called modern comments; for instructions, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-do-i-give-feedback-on-microsoft-office-2b102d44-b43f-4dd2-9ff4-23cf144cfb11.
Microsoft's rationale about "posting" is mentioned in the support article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/using-modern-comments-in-word-edc6ae71-0a2d-49fe-8faa-986f1e48136a (which you may have seen already).
Finally, you should see an option to temporarily revert to the previous, more user-friendly interface at File > Options > General. Clear the check box next to "Enable modern comments."
I wasn't aware that the "Enable modern comments" option had been removed from Word for Mac. It used to be in the Preferences dialog box. 😞

I can still use it in version 16.67. Every time there's an upgrade I check it's still available – dreading the day it's removed entirely!

- will_MS_ever_listenNov 21, 2022Copper ContributorIt's not intact, at least not for all users. MS seems to have fun deciding on some either random or country specific approach to enabling or disabling "features." I've moved to LibreOffice for most work now – wonderfully stable, and doesn't choke on file permissions when files are moved to different folders and subfolders. And has COMMENTS appearing as they should. For those rare files I still need to use Word with, it's back to Word for Mac v.15.50.

I am using Word for Mac Version 16.65.
I just found it under Word > Preferences > General >Settings.- Darren_DicksonNov 04, 2022Copper ContributorThanks for pointing this out. It seems to work!! Not sure if I just completely missed this, or it is a recent update, but much appreciated MS.
- will_MS_ever_listenNov 04, 2022Copper ContributorThat's nice. However, it's NOT in 16.66.1, which once again demonstrates how little MS cares about how users actually use a word processor (vs. how MS coders assume or want to see us use one.
- JR_UW1552Nov 04, 2022Copper ContributorYep! Every time a machine 'updates' MS Word, I have to 'UPGRADE BACK' to Word 15.5! [I take that term from the incredible comment from MS some years back after a disastrous OS release that you could always 'upgrade back to the previous OS'!! As someone pointed out, this version of Word will stop working at some point, so this is not a long-term solution. Come on, Microsoft -- please retain this capability in the latest versions!! [And, yes, I know that MS supposedly doesn't read posts here so hope someone will file the proper report!]
