Can I remove Modern Comments and revert back?
- Feb 22, 2022
Send feedback to Microsoft to let them know what you think about the so-called modern comments; for instructions, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-do-i-give-feedback-on-microsoft-office-2b102d44-b43f-4dd2-9ff4-23cf144cfb11.
Microsoft's rationale about "posting" is mentioned in the support article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/using-modern-comments-in-word-edc6ae71-0a2d-49fe-8faa-986f1e48136a (which you may have seen already).
Finally, you should see an option to temporarily revert to the previous, more user-friendly interface at File > Options > General. Clear the check box next to "Enable modern comments."
Me, too. This change is an absolute abomination -- I am ready to toss MS Word completely! HOW on earth was such an incredibly stupid and thoughtless decision made and foisted on us all!? AND, how the heck do I change the text style of comments now?? The default is huge, but the old way of changing the Comments STYLE in the Styles pane simply does NOT work now -- ridiculous and frustrating beyond belief!!
Which version of Word/Office are you running?
In Word for Windows, you can still modify the Comment Text style. With modern comments, you won't see the changes in Print Layout view (unless you open the Reviewing pane), but comments will print, or convert to PDF, with the formatting defined in the Comment Text style. Print Preview will also show the "correct" formatting.

Thanks, Stefan but, no, a happy (normally) Mac user here. Using the latest -- 16.56. Bur your solution already worked for me -- THANKS again -- just didn't see the checkbox in the preferences window (although I could have sworn that I looked).
Best!!
