Black background

I downloaded a file of clipart images from ‘teachers pay teachers’. I copied one of the pdf images and pasted it into word and the background is black instead of transparent. How can I get transparent backgrounds?  I have been downloading images from teachers pay teachers very successfully until the black background issue started yesterday.
