Appearance of word documents changed
Today, the appearance of all my word documents changed.
Was this a Microsoft update?
How do I revert them back to the original?

Could you provide an example of what has changed? You can paste a screen shot into a reply in this thread.
To the best of my knowledge, no recent update has introduced any major changes as far as document display is concerned.

The 2 main changes are:
all my document templates were removed from the options that you see when you open a new file in Word
the option setting the colour scheme was changed so the colour scheme of my documents was completely changed
After an annoying half-hour, I have reset Up my document templates, And managed to find the switches in options to allow me to get back to my original settings.
The same thing also happened in Excel. Once again an unnecessary nuisance.
This was an annoying update.

I am not sure what happened on your system. There is no reason why anything should be lost or modified simply because of an update. 😞
By the way, which operating system are you running? Which version of Office?
