Accept Next Change feature messes up edited hyperlinks

When hyperlinks are edited using Track Changes in Microsoft Word and you want to accept those changes, I can't use "Accept Next Change" to jump to the next one, but instead have to highlight the link and click "Accept." What happens if I use "Accept Next Change" and jump to it is that the text disappears and the link turns into bracketed language (view field codes mode).

For example: Beautiful link becomes {HYPERLINK "www.microsoft.com" HYPERLINK "www.apple.com"} if it's the next tracked change and I seek it using "Accept Next Change."

I've tried a change in the settings as follows: Click "Word Options" on the bottom of the dropdown menu. Click the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to the "Show document content" section. Right above the "Field shading" box, there is an option that says, "Show field codes instead of their values." If that has a check next to it, unclick it and hit OK. Change what's in the "Field shading" box to "Never." That didn't work.

The same problem occurs if using just the "Accept" function, which accepts and jumps you to the next tracked change. I've tried "Undo" and it won't even undo the switch to the bracketed link. I've tried Alt-F9 twice to show field codes and then hide them, and that doesn't do the trick either.

I've had this problem in the past several versions of Word and put up with it for 15 years, and hope someone can give me a solution finally. Microsoft Tech support couldn't.
