Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release) Install error - 0xc1900101
My computer simply won't update to the newest Windows 11 Insider Preview.

Installed on: 2/8/2024
OS build: 26040.1000
Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26040.1000.0
Every time I go to install this update, my computer freezes at startup, then after many minutes of being frozen I will just get the Green Screen of Death that says ":( Your Windows Insider Build ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you." Once the computer does restart, the update gets undone.
Another thing I'd like to add is I tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter and it says "An error occurred while troubleshooting: A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting. Troubleshooters have moved and this tool will be retired. Learn more."

- JCraigphreeradikillCopper ContributorSame issue here tried installing 4 times it hangs during update after reset. Every other build has installed flawlessly. Running a 5900x on X570 master. Going buy the posts it looks like an issue mostly with AMD procs. I guess for now gonna pause updates for now, hopefully they get this one figured out soon. Do not want to do a clean install! PLEASE FIX IT QUICK MS.
- IcyD1amondCopper ContributorIf you could provide me with an update on what you've done so far. It'd be greatly appreciated to know if you solved this problem or not. This issue happened to me as well and gave me a wonderful heart attack when I woke up and noticed my bios was open for some reason as I went to sleep with my PC updating. I exited out of bios, and it loaded back up but froze on startup. So, I restarted the PC, and it rolled back and turned off. Turned it back on and loaded up fine, but I was on the previous update. So, what I'm going to do is press that wonderful button that stops updates for a week. Come back in a week and hopefully there will be an update that allows me to finish the process this time. I recommend everyone else to do the same as it seems like it's an issue with the update and not people's hardware.

I must admit I don’t know what the ge-release stands for. I have made 5 or 6 attempts to load the install update Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release).
Now after reading other posts, I realized that the upgrade started freezing at the first pass off from bios to windows also and then it would freeze with about a quarter of the rotating circle still on the screen. After I would shut down the computer with a hard shut down, I was now getting the install procedure starting but not too far before going to the freezing up stage again. After upgrading some video drivers and software drivers, on 3 more attempts I was getting 68% the computer setting up windows then then it would freeze. After a hard restart on the computer myself it removed all new files and in Windows Update it comes up with - Install error - 0xc1900101 every time.
New today 2024-02-11
Under Windows Update and it says;
- Updates available to down load
- Last checked Today, 10:41 AM
- Download & install all.
The Tab Below says:
- Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release)
- This update couldn't be installed, but we'll try again later.
The difference is it doesn’t say retry and there is a new
- Download & install all tab.
I am reluctant to try again but I will probably give it another go this afternoon and will post my results then.
I noticed others have posted their Device Specifications so I have added in mine in case it is helpful.

No solution yet. Need to add that the download and install took forever. (1-2 hours)
that, already made me very suspicious. All my drivers are updated, and I disconnected my USB back up drive (which was suggested by Microsoft.
I had prior problems with update installs, but they would always work on the 2. try.
My PC is a Dell Precision 3630 Tower with a I7 gen 8.
Current build 23630
- Wilsmart5472Copper ContributorSame here. I have tried 4 times and all are stuck in the MB logo screen, I have to reboot the computer force and system will rollback. Tired of try any again, Waiting for the solution.

Same here! Can't update to this build cuz of this error: 0xc1900101
In my case there is no green screen or error messages. I just see the logo of ASUS (my motherboard manufacturer), as well as the update indicator frozen. After 10 minutes, I've decided to turn off the computer that, after two attempt it automatically restore preview version.

- GlassWolfCopper ContributorSame issue. PC locks up, requiring hard reboot at startup on Gigabyte Aorus Master X570, Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB DDR4, Samsung 970 EVO plus 1GB SSD (boot)
I tried at least twice to run this update. No luck, undoes all changes made and reverts to prior version. - DeletedSame here!
Lock up occurs at first passoff from bios to windows. Other then that installation runs as expected. After 2 reboots the install resets back to previous version with error message error: 0xc1900101 in update. Did all the checks for drivers (all) and reset bios to optimized defaults. From what I know the error may be driver related, have yet to check error logs but I expect that since windows never started there won't be any records of the failure...- cryptoteamCopper ContributorThe same here .... I've had the same type of problems on my Lenovo X1 Yoga Gen1 (6th Gen Intel Mobile, 8GB) - tried twice now but it rolls back after the restart post-install. Technically the CPU is outside minimum requirements, but I've been using this machine for Win11 Insider builds since pre-release. Had the occasional build fail in the past, so I'm sure this one will just be another blip.

- jmascensaoCopper ContributorThe same here, tried on 3 different machines with amd cpu. Diferent Chipsets also.
The same result
On my Intel Laptop updated without issues.
I Believe it a MS problem with AMD either cpu or chipset
