Why remote Desktop Connection not pulling in audio from local machine

The microphone is an integrated mic in my laptop. Remote Desktop connection settings: Play on this computer, record from this computer are both checked. On the remote desktop, in Windows 10 settings, I see the remote audio is selected as output, but it has no input devices found.

With the same laptop and same settings as above I can remote into a VM (Win 10 1909) and I see remote audio is selected as output and remote audio is selected as input. The local (laptop) speakers and mic work fine on the remote machine as desired.

I only heard system notifications' sound through rdp (trixie remmina - win11).
I'm not sure if step 2 (creating fDisableAudioCapture) was necessary, but after that and step 3, all my soundOverRdp issues were fixed.
    Thank you!

It sounds like you've already done a lot of troubleshooting. Here are a few more steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Group Policy Settings:
      • On the remote computer, press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
      • Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Device and Resource Redirection.
      • Ensure that both Allow audio and video playback redirection and Allow audio recording redirection are set to Enabled or Not configured.
    2. Check Registry Settings:
      • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services.
      • Ensure that the fDisableAudioCapture value is set to 0. If it doesn't exist, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named fDisableAudioCapture and set it to 0.
    3. Restart Windows Audio Service:
      • On both the local and remote machines, press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Find Windows Audio in the list, right-click it, and select Restart.
      • Ensure that the Startup type is set to Automatic.
    4. Check Audio Devices:
      • On both the local and remote machines, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
      • Go to the Recording tab and ensure that the correct microphone is set as the default device.
    5. Update Audio Drivers:
      • Ensure that the audio drivers on both the local and remote machines are up-to-date. You can do this by going to Device Manager, finding the audio device, right-clicking it, and selecting Update driver.

These steps should help resolve the issue with the Remote Desktop Connection not pulling in audio from your local machine. If the problem persists, you can find more detailed solutions https://remotdesktop.com/fix-windows-remote-desktop-sound-or-audio-not-working/.
