Safe Mode Failure

First, the scenario: The computer in question is a Dell XPS 8950, a rebuilt provided by Dell when they finally agreed with me that my then computer, likely a XPS 8930 was faulty. After a few years, when the warranty on the 8950 was about to expire, Dell had a very good sale, so i bought a XPS 8960. Once I had that ready to use, I set the 8950 aside to replace the Dell Inspiron used by my wife, assuming that she would quickly clean up the Inspiron. It turned out that "quickly" mean some four years or so, as she kept putting off the clean up work, plus much of her time was consumed by her dedication to her teaching, especially Advanced English for senior high school students.

Try the following steps to enter Safe Mode:

    Method 1. Force entry:

Hold down the Shift key while restarting and select "Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart → Press F4/F5

    Method 2. Repair boot:

Boot using the installation USB drive → “Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Command Prompt” and execute:

    bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal
Method 3. Run in recovery environment:

    chkdsk /f /r
    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows
If all else fails, reinstall the system.
