Problem with creating a new "documents" system folder
Hi there,
I wanted to move the system folder "documents" from C to another hard disk (a 2TB drive called "2TB Platte (I:)" in my new PC. I made the mistake, that I did not create a "documents" folder first when I moved the system folder via the folder settings but moved it directly onto (I:).
When I relized the error (as I wanted to move pictures and downloads too), I wanted to restore the folder "documents" to C it did not work as I got a rejection message and it seems the systems still thinks that (I:) IS the documents folder.
I tried to find a possibly hidden file which makes it thinking this is "documents" but it does not show any hidden files so far.
As a plan B I tried to create a new folder under "C:\Users\Petra\EigeneDateien" and have put this in the registry as folder for Personal but it does not recognize this "EigeneDateien" as a system folder but just as a normal folder.
Now the question:
How can I get a new system folder "documents" setup under (C:) which I can then properly move to (I:) as a subfolder or how can I directly create this as a subfolder on (I:)?
I hope you guys can help me.
Thanks and regards
Petra

PetraSchw , I think your documents are safe now, because your documents currently saving to I:\
Also i seen many users are losed their documents , videos and many personal files after reinstalled windows by formating C drive

If I go over the Windows system and tell the system to save new documents, music, pictures etc to (I:) it looks fine at the first step. Looking closer at the newly created documents these are "document folders" and not "system folders".
The system folders (except the "document" folder which I messed up) are still on C:
I would be able to move the system folders via right click and "settings" to I:
Still, I stay with the problem that I do not have a system folder anymore for "documents".The big questions are now:
1. is that a potential problem if I do not have a system folder called "documents"?
2. if the response to 1 is "yes", how can I recreate the "documents" system folder ?
Kind regards
Petra
- Alabamatom1963Steel ContributorWhen you save Documents make sure to see where they are saving to so you can pull them back up when you need them. This explains it very clearly.

When saving Files make sure the Save Directory is the one you want. If you can't find the file or forget where you saved it. Open Explorer and on the top right input the file name in the search panel and it will locate it for you.
I hope this helps. - Alabamatom1963Steel ContributorIn reply to the second question. Simply open Explorer and go to the Directory you want. Now while you are in the Directory Right Click inside Explorer and Hover arrow over New then Click on Folder. Name it Documents and Hit Enter. You now have a new folder called Documents.
- Alabamatom1963Steel ContributorAnother thing to consider when moving system files is you must be in the Administrator mode or it will deny you access to the files.
