My SSD completely failed after a sudden shutdown
I'm using Dev Channel, when I was outside for ~15 minutes, leaving my laptop on.
When I go back, the screen is pit black, I hit the power button, it automatically boot to WinRE, I was confused why it went there, I continue to Windows but now it stucks in WinRE loop, after about 3 tries.
I chose repair my computer, but it couldn't able to repair so. I tried disabling WinRE with cmd, the next restart, Windows still at WinRE? Instead another the dialog saying that my system files may corrupted and need to be fixed, still it couldn't fix and I still stuck in WinRE.
I was planning for the last choice - Resetting my laptop. I didn't want to so I turned off and left it there. After few hours, when I go back, my UEFI couldn't detect any boot device (HP error 3f0), I tried any possible way to find the drive (even Windows installation media). None worked.
I haven't installed any new software or changed any settings in that day, I've never encountered such serious problem, usually they're just green screens. I ordered new SSD after this.
Does anyone know why did this happen? 😞
Hello Limer!
It sounds like your SSD failed due to a sudden shutdown, which can sometimes cause drive corruption or failure, especially if the power loss affects the data being written to the drive. It's possible that the SSD became damaged during the shutdown, which caused Windows to enter the recovery loop. The 3F0 error typically means the system can't detect the boot device, which further suggests an issue with the SSD or the connection to it.
Replacing the SSD seems like a good move, and once you do, make sure to reinstall Windows and restore your backup if you have one.
Hope it helps!
