In windows, do you experience slowness when you switch from one user to another?
I'm on Windows pc users are usually logged in my main machine. The two main users tend to leave so many programs open even when not in use. For example, one user (let's call him X) will have like 30 firefox windows open + 5 edge browser windows + few word documents + few folders, acrobat reader, image viewer. Other users will have the same behavior but little less. RAM is at 50% most of the time. When I switch from any other user to user X, it will take sometime before the desktop is usable as if you are booting the computer. I have 64 GB of RAM, and you can see other specs in my sig. Is this normal behavior and my rig is just showing its old age? I mean why would it take time if things are already loaded into RAM?

When you switch users, Windows doesn't log off the first user. Instead, it keeps all their programs and open files running in the background while it loads the second user's profile. This process is resource-intensive.
Please reduce startup programs. This helps the second user's desktop become usable much faster.
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Go to the Startup tab.
- For both users, disable any programs that are not essential to have running immediately upon login.
- Right-click and select Disable.
