How to troubleshoot the issue of the Windows 11 desktop automatically refreshing every few moments?

Recently, I've noticed that the computer desktop automatically refreshes itself at regular intervals. The symptoms are that the desktop icons briefly turn white and flicker/shake, which is more noticeable than a manual refresh (F5). I would like to understand the possible causes and how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue step by step.

Take necessary steps to resolve the issue, such as updating drivers, fixing system file corruption, or rolling back system updates.

Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause desktop flickering:

    • Go to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
    • Expand Display adapters.
    • Right-click your graphics card and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • Alternatively, visit the GPU manufacturer's website (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA) for the latest driver.

Reboot after updating and see if the flickering persists.

  • Suggest you to run System File Checker scan:

    1. Search for 'command prompt' using Windows Search.
    2. From results, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
    3. Type sfc /scannow command and press Enter key.
    4.  Let the command complete and then reboot the machine.
