How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

Win11 has nothing new except the stupid start menu. Does Microsoft Windows team know anything about UX?
They just copied Mac style to make it 'beautiful' and don't care anything about users

'..don't care about users' - where have you been for the last 30yrs? Of course Microsoft doesn't care about users!
- Graham-STMCSteel ContributorThe new Start Menu brings everything closer to the centre of the screen, meaning far less travel over large areas to achieve simple tasks. The whole essence of Windows 11 is to focus on what is important rather than be distracted by rolling live tiles of information. The Widgets have been moved out of the way. The new Start Menu acts more like a tablet or phone screen - which is "naturally familiar" to most people. Please remember although it is an update to Windows 10, Windows 11 was built from the ground up. Features such as folders and more flexibility in the Start Menu are being introduced and as we all contribute more to this forum other improvements will be made. We cannot go back to Windows XP, although I do miss the perfection of Windows on PC AND tablet, with Windows Mobile on phone and Cortana linking it all together. Even Apple copied Windows Live Tiles introducing Widgets to iPhones and iPad tablets after Windows Mobile died.

Graham-STMC I'm not sure what your point is but as a professional trying to use a PC I don't want or need it to be "familiar like a phone", i need it to work like a PC. The lack of an option to not combine task bar icons for users with multiple instances of applications running is a major retrograde step from the previous version since it makes trying to use Windows far more inefficient. There's no good reason, either technical or design, to have removed this as an option.
- spacevoyager410Copper ContributorYes they blindly copied Mac taskbar which is useless in office environment where we have multiple emails open. Having tabs is So easy and fast than clicking through app menus.
I like iPhone and iPad but don’t like MacOS.- DeletedThey are improving the taskbar to support all the old features, they are trying to make everything of new code that jus didn't support it yet. They are going to release it in the Anniversary update in the summer
- AlexanderGukBrass ContributorYes! I'm having the same problem! It's unproductive!
- andca1Brass ContributorYes give us back the choice to never combine taskbar icons. just ridiculous and annoying that MS should dictate the terms how you want these.
- piggraftBrass Contributori dont understand why they hide apps like that like we are using small screens or a tablet it is 2021 everything is 1080p or 4k resolution or even higher so why is there any need to combine apps like they do is beyond me. never combine like windows xp & 7 is the way forward. combining apps is good for 720p and lower resolutions screens. have an option or addon to download Microsoft
- CesarMarounCopper ContributorNo real reason. It seems as though Microsoft is being slowly infiltrated by Apple's very bad user-experience army of developers and designers. I finally gave up and went back to Windows 10 because of this time wasting decision!
- lindixuIron ContributorI will never upgrade to windows 11 until this feature is back.
- Wake90Brass ContributorI wish I had enough foresight to avoid this problem. It's crazy how corporations are ready to make judgement calls about how to manage your desktop. I need to look into possibilities to downgrade to Win10, but I doubt a good one exists.

For god sake Microsoft, return the NEVER COMBINE option in the taskbar.
1st, it's killing my productivity. can't switch between Visual Studio instances fast
2nd, I can't see any error or exception messages when happen if I was working on different app.
- SassyKatIron ContributorUsing 3rd party tools to bring it back breaks a bunch of other things. smiley shortcut, snipping tool, etc... Still trying to use it, but experience is certainly broken. Just bring the ungroup option back.
- Inu-YashaIron ContributorPlease bring back never combine option. It's not possible to multitask without this option.
- RichMPopeIron Contributor
huali1405 The "Never Combine" option needs to come back. Currently the Win11 Taskbar is a boring waste of space on the left and right of the centered icons.......(unless 1. Users fill up the entire taskbar with Shortcuts, 2. Microsoft brings back "Never Combine,' and/or 3. Microsoft adds more features to the Taskbar (more Lists-e.g. Recent, Scrolling Tickers, Multiple Customizable Start Menus???)
- psychedelicuSteel ContributorPlease bring back never combine option! It's unproductive! I have installed windows 10 again. OMG Microsoft!
- PleaseListenwindowsCopper Contributor
100% agree, I have accidentally closed entire window groups more times that I can count in the past month. I haven't reverted to 10 yet but very close to. Come on MS, lets get this fixed. psychedelicu
- deepaksoni01Copper ContributorLack of the option to turn it off & on is frustrating. Evenmore, I'm unable to install 10' from the receovery option. Seems like it was a wrong decision upgrading without fully reading their manual.
- HyperPeteIron ContributorThere is a hack available to resolve this, but it forces the classic start menu.
Do a web search, you'll find it.
Add me to the list of disgruntled users, Microsoft. Allow us to never combine taskbar tabs again, please!- SteveBredallCopper ContributorAgreed. And, if we implement the hack, there is no telling what other negative ramifications may manifest.
