How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

Why has no one from Microsoft joined this thread.
- HairdIron ContributorThis is the most puzzling to me. MS sets up this forum, has access to its most valued customers who spend the time to share user needs, then totally ignores the feedback without the grace to even say they are listening. Other companies would treasure this info.
Do they benefit from too much monopoly power? Do they want Google suite to catch up? Puzzling.- Deleted

I do not understand how this has to do with Windows11?
Do you want to work on Android?

I’m thinking of the logic on why they did this....
Firstly if they was a better alternative to windows I would already have joined another competitor.
What this icon thing does, is I have to click the app icon then check the many small windows to see which one to open. It’s can take a few seconds to see if it is the right icon. this is opposed to last time when all the tabs were on the desktop and I could see the name of the window I wanted to open and quickly click the option. You think opening up multiple tabs (in web browsers) might solve the problem but ppl are used to pop ups coming on their tabs so they usually close the whole window. I also have the habit in opening a new window so not to accidentally close all the information which may be on multiple tabs.
I do not think it is difficult to fix this. Microsoft doesn’t want to fix this for a reason. To dumb down the function of windows. That’s why copy and paste shortcuts are different(not in a good way) Yet it doesn’t take much for ppl to learn how to use a computer. Microsoft underestimates show adaptable ppl can be.
- Helios8Copper ContributorIt seems no one at Microsoft listens to feedback. Obviously there is still no plan to solve this. I installed Win 11 as soon as it was available and promptly reverted back to Win 10 once I got to know that some "genius" at Microsoft decided this feature was not necessary. I'm not installing a third party app to just have this basic feature so I'm never upgrading to Windows 11 until this feature is brought back by tone-deaf Microsoft. The copycat programmers at Microsoft thought of the fashion and not about function.
- Jim_T1405Iron ContributorWorse. I think they just fouled up. Not very inspiring.

Hi Helios8
" It seems no one at Microsoft listens to feedback "
This is not true!
Microsoft needs feedback, I suggested closing this post because it has a development, but - > received a response that they are still waiting and are interested in user feedback!
- StefanoEvoBrass Contributor
Deleted Are you kidding? There's no need user feedback in restoring a useful function removed without asking! And Microsoft should have learned it with Windows 8 and its ridiculous start menu.
- rafagricolaBrass Contributoris microsoft profiting from third party app? 🤔
- Jim_T1405Iron ContributorI highly doubt it. Gates would have bought this from the developer and made the guy rich. Because good code is good code and if someone else wrote good code, Gates was smart enough to buy it and use it as a starting point.
FIX IT!

We need this feature back. Currently, the task bar is a waste of space.
- SoulhuisCopper ContributorGreat work MS, 5 steps back for every 2 steps forward... This is rediculous, fire the person who decided this was a good idea. Probably one of the managers, i cant believe an actual developer made this decision.
- FuryanCopper Contributor+1 to bring back such an exceptionally useful configuration.
Looking for the right window to select by hovering is unproductive.
Having to resort to spending some cash for a third-party tool is not a bad option, but not listening to what amounts to thousands of complaints is sad and shows that you're not valuing user feedback enough.- DavidMcAfeeCopper Contributor
Furyan You don't have to spend cash for a 3rd party app. There is a free one available, listed multiple times in the thread, which does work. Still, I believe MS needs to get this fixed.
- rafagricolaBrass ContributorWill we have a solution for this simple absurdity in 2023?

The Microsoft team doesn't seem to be working to restore this feature.

- RClaytonHBrass Contributor909th reply since last July. I'm at a loss. Why can't this simple toggle be added? I'm trying to adjust, but combined buttons are a ridiculous waste of efficiency. I know what works for me and have been working for years. I want it back.

RClaytonH Hi,
"Why can't this simple toggle be added? "
Unfortunately, but this requires a large reconstruction of the system, maybe the next version will improve it, but rather users will have to get used to the current change (without this function)
- RClaytonHBrass ContributorNope, not buying that it "requires a large reconstruction of the system". A simple change to a software key fixed it but now doesn't https://www.elevenforum.com/t/taskbar-grouping-ungrouping-broken-with-22000-1335-build.11745/
Please don't peddle the "it's too hard", MS has the resources.
- Bob040Copper Contributorplease fix that!
- RegSogoCopper ContributorYes! PLEASE FIX THIS! No labels and just dumb little icons sitting on one spot on my taskbar is killing me!
