How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

Seriously - this thread is still active and we dont see this fixed. What were you thinking MSFT design team?
- Microsoft does not view this as a defect, therefore there is nothing to fix. They would say it's working as designed. Install ExplorerPatcher and **bleep** Microsoft.
- It has become such a bad experience to work with Windows, due to this weird bug. Please get this fixed as soon as possible.
Kthuen You may be waiting a long time if ever. Microsoft does not consider this a problem. Install ExplorerPatcher and get on with life.
I've been using ExplorerPatcher plus OpenShell combo.
Works well for me.
I know many prefer a native solution from Microsoft and I agree. They should absolutely bring Never Combine back. But who knows when if ever it will happen.
So keep pressuring Microsoft to do this but at the same time do yourself a favour try some 3rd party solutions as well.
The beauty of Windows is that it's always been highly customizable and there are solutions (3rd party or otherwise) for everything.
- Not directed at you specifically but the constant recommendation to use 3rd party apps is all fine and well, except many of us I expect are using work-issued computers and don't have rights to install anything. The apps don't have the security, licensing ability, or add additional value enough for corporations to add them into their environment as options for end users. We're truly stuck with Microsoft's crap decision and it affects the ability to work efficiently. I am literally missing meetings and Outlook reminders because it combines them on the taskbar. I'm having to add every meeting, reminder, etc... as I see them into my personal calendar so I get a notice on my phone - but that doesn't help for last minute invites.
Microsoft needs to fix this - it's not just an aesthetic preference but a necessity.
- I plan to keep using windows 10 until this is a feature in Windows 11.
Combining all buttons into groups makes it feel a lot slower to use across the board.
I already can't seem to increase the size of the icons themselves.
I'm also a strong user of the Quick Launch icons and wish for that to come back.To get Quick Launch back you should simply follow these two steps
1. Install https://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/Explorer-Patcher-for-Windows-11.shtml to have the good old Win 10 taskbar back in action and then
2. Follow https://winaero.com/how-to-enable-quick-launch-in-windows-10/ to get Quick Launch back and running.
I installed them both on Day 1 of my Win 11 and I feel quite happy with them.
- I've been using windows since its inception and have never once considered a mac in earnest... until I booted up my new Windows 11 laptop last week and couldn't ungroup my task bar items. Something seemingly so small can be hugely important (add to that that you can't reposition the task bar to other places on the screen, wtf?). I've never seen form over power function quite like this.
Please bring back taskbar "never combine option"! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Do we need to wait 10 years for this option to get back natively to Windows like it was with "folders first" in MacOS's Finder?

I recently purchased a new laptop, fully kitted out with the best of the best. Unfortunately, it came with Windows 11, and the lack of ability to customize my taskbar (I need tabs instead of icons, and I need them not to combine), makes using my lightning quick laptop feel as clunky as my 12 year old PC.
Please, please, Microsoft... Enable these very basic taskbar features. Minimalist aesthetic doesn't work for most ordinary users.
