How to fix my laptop loading screen stuck after update?

Hi everyone,

My laptop is currently stuck on the loading screen (spinning circles) and won't boot into the desktop. This happened immediately after I installed the most recent updates and restarted.

  • Laptop Model: HP Spectre x360
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home 25H2
  • What I've tried: Hard rebooting (holding the power button), but it returns to the same screen.
  • Current State: It has been sitting on this screen for 2 hours.

Does anyone know how to fix my laptop stuck on loading screen after update when I can't get past the boot screen? Any help is appreciated!

Seen this after updates, laptop just keeps spinning on the loading screen and never boots.Try recovery mode → Startup Repair or uninstall update. Also, if this keeps looping, there’s a real chance of file corruption or data loss, so better to back up data before trying reset

    Remove Problematic Drivers.

After a Windows update, some drivers (like graphics, Wi-Fi, or chipset drivers) can become incompatible or corrupted. This often causes issues like a stuck loading screen or boot failure. Removing or rolling back these drivers in Safe Mode can help restore normal startup and fix laptop stuck on loading screen issue after installing update.

Common Drivers That Cause Boot Issues:

🎮 Graphics driver (NVIDIA / AMD / Intel)

💽 Storage controller (can cause boot failure)

🌐 Network adapter (less common but possible)

    Important Tips:

    • Do not uninstall multiple drivers at once (do one by one)
    • If unsure, start with the graphics driver
    • Always restart after changes

Removing or rolling back problematic drivers is a reliable way to fix laptop stuck on loading screen after a Windows update. Focus on recently updated drivers, especially graphics and storage, and test changes one at a time to identify the root cause.

    • Turn on the laptop and immediately press the ESC key repeatedly until a menu appears.
    • Press the F10 key to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
    • In the BIOS, press the F9 key to load the factory default settings.

It is particularly effective for HP devices with updated BIOS or system firmware, resolving boot loop or loading screen freeze issues after Windows updates, and restoring stable startup performance without data loss.

  • Safe Mode starts Windows with only the essential drivers and services, which makes it much easier to fix problems caused by a failed update, bad driver, or software conflict. If the laptop is stuck on the loading screen, Safe Mode can help you get into the system and remove whatever is causing the issue.

    Steps to Enter Safe Mode

    1. Turn on your laptop and force shut it down when it starts loading (hold Power button)
    2. Repeat this 2–3 times until you see “Preparing Automatic Repair”
    3. Click Advanced options
    4. Go to: Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings
    5. Click Restart
    6. When the options appear, press:
    7. 4 or F4 → Safe Mode
    8. 5 or F5 → Safe Mode with Networking (if you need internet)

What to Do in Safe Mode (Important Fixes)

✅ 1. Uninstall Recent Windows Updates

Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update history → Uninstall updates

Remove the most recent update (especially if the issue started after it)

    ✅ 2. Remove Problematic Drivers

    • Right-click Start → Device Manager
    • Look for devices with warning icons ⚠️
    • Right-click → Uninstall device or Roll back driver

Safe Mode is one of the most effective ways to fix a laptop stuck on the loading screen after update. It gives you access to Windows in a minimal environment so you can uninstall updates, fix drivers, and repair system files. If your laptop works fine in Safe Mode, the issue is almost always caused by software.
