How can I trick a program into believing that it is running on Windows 10?

I am trying to get a program running on windows 8.1. When I try to launch it, it tells me that it is only compatible with windows 10 and 11.

Is there any way to trick this program into thinking that it is running on a different version of windows than it actually is? I want to make it think that I am trying to launch think that is running on windows 10 instead of windows 8.

I don't want to use the extended kernal because I don't trust it. Nothing against the devs btw, I'm just a bit paranoid about installing something like that from a random megadrive link.

I have already edited the minimum versions of the exes and dlls inside of CFF explorer, so I don't think that anything else relating to CFF explorer will work.

    • Right-click the executable → Properties → Compatibility tab
    • Click "Run compatibility troubleshooter"
    • Try different Windows versions in the wizard
    • Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 8 or Windows 7
