How can I revert iphone to previous ios 18?

Hi all,

My iPhone was upgraded to iOS 26 from iOS 18 one week ago but it causes a lot of issues since then. After updating, the phone is not working as well as before, so I would like to know whether it is possible to revert my iPhone to older iOS safely.

I am not very experienced with this, so I would really appreciate simple and clear guidance to let me revert iphone to previous ios, preferably from iOS 26 to iOS 19. Can this be done from a Windows PC using iTunes or another official method? I am also unsure whether Apple only allows downgrading for a limited time, and whether this process will erase the iPhone.

If you search online for a way to downgrade iOS without a computer, almost all results are misleading. The technical reality is that all official and most reliable downgrade methods require connecting your iPhone to a Mac or a Windows PC.

According to multiple reputable sources, including Apple's official support communities, you cannot downgrade your iPhone's operating system without using a computer.

To revert my iPhone to older iOS 18, the only thing you can do on the iPhone itself is remove the beta profile. However, this does not " revert my iPhone to older iOS 18 "; it only stops future beta updates from appearing. Your phone will remain on iOS 26.

Before you go through the effort of borrowing a computer, you must check if a downgrade is even technically possible. Apple stops "signing" older iOS versions a few weeks after a new one launches, which prevents any downgrade.

You can check this almost instantly on any device with a browser by going to a website called ipsw, me. Select your exact iPhone model. If iOS 18 appears in red as "Unsigned," then no method can help you downgrade. You would be stuck on iOS 26 regardless.

Since the technical reality is that a computer is required, you have a few paths forward:

Borrow Access to a Computer: To revert iPhone to previous iOS. If you don't own a computer, you can borrow one from a friend or family member. You can also visit an Apple Store or an authorized service provider and ask to use one of their Macs for the downgrade process .

Use a Different Computer-Based Software: If you reconsider using these types of tools on a borrowed computer, a downgrade becomes possible.

Stay on the Current Version: This is not ideal, but it is an option. You can keep your phone on its current iOS version and wait for Apple to release subsequent updates to fix the problems you are experiencing.

A computer is an unavoidable requirement for downgrading your iPhone's operating system, as it is required both to download the necessary firmware and to perform the installation. Before you go to the trouble of finding a computer, it is critical to first check if you revert iPhone to previous iOS is even possible. As of late 2025, news reports from reliable sources indicate that Apple has stopped signing all versions of iOS 18, meaning a downgrade is no longer possible for anyone, regardless of what tools they have.

Unfortunately, Apple does not officially support downgrading iOS once you've upgraded to a newer version, and revert back to iOS 18 from 26 or iOS 19 is generally not possible through official methods once Apple stops signing the older version. This process can be tricky and often results in data loss, so it’s important to consider the risks.

Here's what you need to know:Apple's Signing Window: Apple only signs older versions of iOS for a limited period after a new version is released. Once a new iOS version is rolled out (e.g., iOS 26), Apple typically stops signing the previous versions (e.g., iOS 18 and iOS 19). This means that unless Apple is still signing iOS 18 or 19, you won’t be able to officially revert back to iOS 18 from 26.

Is It Safe to Downgrade? No — even if you could downgrade, there's a high chance of data loss or issues when attempting to revert to a previous iOS version. Apple typically recommends staying on the latest iOS for stability and security.

Can I Downgrade Using iTunes? No — iTunes or Finder (on Mac) does not officially allow downgrading iOS to a previous version unless Apple is still signing that version.

Data Loss Risk: If you manage to find an unofficial method (through third-party tools), there's a high risk of losing data. So, it’s crucial to have a backup before attempting anything.

If the issues are significant and nothing else has worked, contacting Apple Support could be a good option to revert my iPhone to older iOS 18.

Instructions: If you want official help to revert your iPhone, you can contact Apple Support directly, or use Apple Diagnostics to run a hardware check before proceeding with any downgrade attempts.

Its advantages include getting professional guidance on how to safely revert my iPhone to older iOS 18, official hardware diagnostics to rule out device issues, and step-by-step advice tailored to your situation.

Its drawbacks include long wait times for support appointments, the fact that Apple does not officially support downgrading iOS versions, and limited direct help with reverting to older iOS releases.

This allows you to seek verified advice and diagnostics before attempting to roll back your iPhone. It is suitable for users who have tried all self-help methods and want to confirm if there are underlying hardware issues before attempting any system changes.

If you are technically inclined or simply want a powerful solution to revert my iPhone to older iOS 18, idevicerestore is the most best option available. It is a command-line tool that reimplements Apple's restore process from scratch.

What it is: A cross-platform application (Windows, Mac, Linux) that allows fine-grained control over iOS firmware restoration without relying on Apple's proprietary software.

Key Features: It allows for custom firmware flashing, manual SHSH blob management, and selective component upgrades (like skipping the baseband update).

How to use it: This requires using the command line. You would typically run a command like idevicerestore -d [path to IPSW file] to initiate the process. (Note: This is for advanced users comfortable with terminal commands).

Overall, using iDeviceRestore to revert my iPhone to older iOS 18 can be a useful method for those who need to go back to a previous iOS version, but it requires careful preparation and awareness of Apple’s signing policies.

To revert iPhone to previous iOS. You can remove the beta profile from your iPhone Settings :

    1. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management

    2. Tap the iOS Beta Software Profile and select Remove Profile

    3. Restart your iPhone

However, this does NOT downgrade your iOS version . It only stops future beta updates from installing. Your iPhone will remain on exactly the same operating system version it's currently running.

Bottom line: If you want to downgrade iOS 18, you will need to use a computer and enter recovery mode at some point. The only completely free method is the official Apple method, which uses Recovery Mode. Third-party tools that bypass iTunes still require recovery mode and cost money.

Before you revert iPhone to previous iOS:

    * Back Up Your Data: Downgrading will erase your device. Crucially, you cannot restore a backup made on a newer iOS version to an older iOS 18 device. Therefore, you must either:

    * Have an iCloud backup from when you were previously on iOS 18, or

    * Use a third-party tool to back up specific data (like photos or contacts) that is version-agnostic.

    * Disable "Find My iPhone": You must turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > [Your Name] > Find My, as it prevents the restore process.
