File explorer "see more" tab always opens upwards 24H2
Hi all! I'm on 24H2 with Insider RP build 1882. When I go into File Explorer and click on the 3 dots in the address bar for "see more" the tab always opens upwards. Hence if the window is at the top of the screen, the options are not visible. I have to drag the screen down in order to see them and when I do drag, there's a black bar appears at the top of the screen. Happens on all 3 of my PCs. The view button opens correctly.
Anyone else seeing this?

That bug has been reported months ago, but Microsoft guys are ignoring it.
They tried a fix that only works with specific display settings, but still fails when the Display Scale is 125%, 150%, 175%, etc.
The bug was added when they enabled another experimental fix for a completely different issue.
The experimental fix did not work at all and instead it added this silly bug with the 3 dots menu opening upwards.
This below is the culprit id they enabled in the image default of every 24H2 Build and also on Canary.
[51960011] (FileExplorerTabLineFix)
Disabling the id above gets rid of the problem, but the guys at Microsoft are not listening to the FBH reports. 🤬
What does it take to wake them up?

I was having this problem with 2x displays that are both on 125% scale but, was not having the issue with my other 2x displays with 200% scale. So, I tried this suggested fix and disabled feature 51960011 and after a reboot, the issue is resolved.
Microsoft should fix this bug but a better idea, just put the dang features back in the toolbar. Why do these options I use often have to be in a hidden menu and more clicks away? It's so stupid to dumb-down the UI so much and not let me pick was gets hidden behind ... anyway. 🤬

It was reported to MS months ago that the bug was caused by that completely useless 51960011.
They are still ignoring the facts and keep enabling that feature id by default on every 24H2 build and also on Canary.
They tried yet another different fix recently (on Feb 14, 2025) by enabling another feature 54792954 which was originally meant for a completely different purpose in 23H2. 😵💫😂
That feature id actually fixes your case with 125% scale, but unfortunately it adds a new different bug on closing File Explorer.
Typical MS geniuses! Fix one bug by adding another new one. 🤣🤣🤣🤬🤬🤬
Hello,
it seems to be a usability bug in the Windows Insider Preview build 1862 (24H2). I can give some suggestions at this point.
Resize the Window:
- As you've noted, dragging the File Explorer window down temporarily fixes the issue, but this is inconvenient.
- If the menu consistently opens upward, keeping the window positioned away from the top edge of the screen might be the only current workaround.
Check for Updates:
- This issue might already be identified and fixed in a newer build. Ensure you have the latest updates for the Windows Insider Preview:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
Restart Explorer:
Sometimes, restarting the File Explorer process can resolve temporary UI glitches:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Find and restart the Windows Explorer process.
Use Keyboard Shortcuts:
ıf the menu is inaccessible:
- Press Alt to focus the File Explorer menu.
- Use arrow keys to navigate to the desired option.

It happens on my PC too. I am waiting for the next update to get this fixed.

Good luck waiting for that, MS had this silly bug for months and they still don't have a clue on how to fix it properly. 😵💫🤬
