Camera app not wirking

Hello,

I am in the Relaese channel, 24H2.

I have issues with my camera. Yesterday, Windows Hello and the camera app were not working but Zoom did. Today Windows Hello works but not the camera app. I get the message below. I tried ot unistall/reinstall the camera app and checked fir updates; I also tried to repair Windows with scc/scannow but it did not solve the issue. Would you have ideas?

Thanks much

Sometimes, other apps (like Zoom) might lock the camera. Make sure no other applications are using the camera when you're trying to access it with the Camera app.

Since Zoom works, your camera hardware and driver are fine. This is almost certainly a Windows 24H2 Camera app issue.

    Try these quick checks:

    Permissions

    • Settings → Privacy & security → Camera
    • Make sure camera access is ON and the Camera app is allowed

    Reset the Camera app

    • Settings → Apps → Camera → Advanced options
    • Repair → Reset → reboot

    Restart the camera service

    • Open services.msc
    • Restart Windows Camera Frame Server

If it still fails, it’s likely a 24H2 bug. Third-party apps working confirms it’s not hardware, and it usually gets fixed in a later update.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.

Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.

Scroll down and ensure that Allow desktop apps to access your camera is enabled.

Verify that the specific app you're using (e.g., Camera, Windows Hello) has permission to access the camera.

  • Windows Hello uses the camera for facial recognition; if it’s working now, it might be a driver or permissions issue affecting the Camera app.

Uninstall the camera device in Device Manager, then restart your computer to allow the system to automatically reinstall the driver.
