Bitlocker

Hello,
When I start my PC I am asked for my recovery key. I can't find it. However, I have the recovery ID to identify my key. It is made up of 32 characters. But I don't know how to use it to recover my recovery key. Thank you for your help.

Check Your Work or School Account (If Managed by IT)
If your PC is managed by an organization, your IT department may have the key stored in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) or Intune:

Sign in to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/ with your work/school email.
Navigate to Devices > BitLocker Keys.
Match the Recovery ID with one of the keys listed.

you have the recovery ID, you can use it to locate the recovery key. The best place to check first is your Microsoft account’s recovery key page. Sign in with the account linked to your PC and see if the key is stored there.

If your PC is asking for a recovery key, it means BitLocker encryption is enabled, likely due to a system update, hardware change, or security policy. Since you have the recovery ID, you can use it to locate the recovery key. The best place to check first is your Microsoft account’s recovery key page. Sign in with the account linked to your PC and see if the key is stored there.

If it’s not available in your Microsoft account, try checking other possible locations where the key might have been saved:

A USB drive where you may have stored it
A printed copy (sometimes recommended when setting up BitLocker)
Another device linked to the same Microsoft account
Your organization's IT department (if this is a work device)
If you’re unable to find the key, unfortunately, there’s no way to bypass BitLocker, and you may need to reset your PC, which will erase all data on the drive. Before doing that, you might want to double-check all possible locations and reach out to Microsoft support for further guidance.

Let me know if you need more help, and I hope you’re able to recover your key!

    1. Check Your Microsoft Account
If BitLocker was set up using a Microsoft account, follow these steps:

Go to Microsoft’s BitLocker Recovery Key website. (https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey)
Sign in with the Microsoft account used when BitLocker was enabled.
Look for the key that matches your 32-character Recovery ID.

    3. Check Your Active Directory (For IT-Managed PCs)
If your PC is part of a company domain, ask your IT administrator to check:

Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) → BitLocker Recovery tab
Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) → Device > Recovery Keys
