Wireless Keyboard gets disconnected
Hi,
I have an issue with my PC running WIN11. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo connected to a bluetooth dongle on one of my USB ports (front of the computer case). Whenever I plug in a thumbdrive to the USB port adjacent to it, the keyboard stops working while the mouse is still functioning. In the device manager, there are no issues indicated with the keyboard when this happens. Any thoughts how I may fix this?
Thanks!

Hi,
When you plug in a thumb drive, especially one using USB 3.0, it can emit electromagnetic interference that disrupts the 2.4GHz wireless signal used by your Logitech dongle. This interference can affect the keyboard while leaving the mouse functional, as they might handle signals differently.
Solutions to Try
- Relocate the Dongle:
- Use a USB extension cable to move the Logitech dongle away from the front USB ports and closer to your keyboard/mouse. This can reduce interference from nearby devices like the thumb drive.
- Switch USB Ports:
- Plug the Logitech dongle into a USB 2.0 port (often black) instead of a USB 3.0 port (often blue). USB 2.0 ports are less prone to causing interference.
- Separate Devices:
- Avoid using adjacent USB ports for the dongle and the thumb drive. If possible, plug the thumb drive into a port on the back of your PC.
- Update Drivers:
- Ensure that your Logitech drivers and firmware are up to date. You can check for updates using the Logitech Options software.
- Disable Power Management:
- In Device Manager, under "Human Interface Devices," find the Logitech USB Input Device. Right-click it, go to Properties, and under the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- Reduce USB 3.0 Interference:
- If the thumb drive is USB 3.0, try using a different thumb drive or a USB 2.0 one to see if the issue persists.
These steps should help mitigate the interference and restore your keyboard's functionality. Let me know how it goes!

Hi,
Thanks for your answer, firatkutay. I have tried a couple of the options you suggested:
- Does not work. Attaching an extension cable is fine, but as soon as I plug the drive into the cable, the keyboard ceases to operate. Interesting sidenote: The keyboard input is still buffered, and when I detach the drive again, all my input appears on the screen.
- Worked, but inconvenient for frequent changes. But I was able to attach a USB extension to a USB2.0 port on the back, and plugging the drive into this extension works. I am going with this setup.
- Did not work.
