Windows Explorer is just lagging, and not showing icons, and crashing

If I select "Date" or "Type"

windows cursor shows loading?? and then it stalls. sometimes icons will show and then sometimes it just crashes with no icons.

If I try to sort files in any way, it does this.

I used disk management to clear all cache/temp files/thumbnails and rebooted but still.

Thumbnails delaying and not showing is a major issue.

Fix corrupted system files that may cause Explorer instability.

  • Run a full scan with Windows Defender or your preferred antivirus software to rule out malware causing system instability.

If the issue began after an update:

Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Click View update history > Uninstall updates.

Remove the most recent update that might be causing the issues

Run the System File Checker (SFC) tool to scan and replace corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow.

Clear the icon cache and rebuild the search index to resolve this issue.
