Thanks Reza, tried this but still no success. Will report it too. Think I'll maybe just give up and by a USB network adaptor. Thanks for all the suggestions.

SpaceyAlice unfortunately not. I think mine was a hardware issue. I ended up buying a usb wireless adapter and that works fine.
