Has anyone had success after removing their antivirus? We’re using Malwarebytes ThreatDown, and so far, dozens of random users have encountered failed updates. For almost everyone, it worked once we uninstalled the AV. We logged a call with the vendor, but they insist it’s not their fault. So, I thought I’d post here, hoping someone else has noticed similar behavior

The provided steps are a solid approach for Windows 11 updates failed for cumulative updates 24H2, such as the 24H2 update. Here are a few additional recommendations before you proceed:

    • Back Up Your System: Before running scripts or making changes to the system, consider backing up your important data or creating a system restore point.
    • Verify the Source of the Script: Ensure that the script you are using is from a reputable source to avoid running malicious code.
    • Consider Other Troubleshooting Methods: If the script does not resolve the issue, you may want to explore additional troubleshooting methods, such as running the Windows Update Troubleshooter directly from Windows Settings, performing a System File Check (SFC), or using the Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool (DISM).
    • Seek Help from Microsoft Support: If issues persist, reaching out to Microsoft Support might be necessary for personalized assistance.

I tried this process, but it rejected the 'rename' commands, with an error "Access is denied", even though I was running as administrator.

If your Windows 11 updates failed for cumulative update 24H2, you might run into a few hiccups.

    1. Sometimes, failed updates can leave your system feeling a bit sluggish or buggy, even if you don’t notice dramatic failures right off the bat. It’s like trying to drive a car with a flat tire; you can manage for a bit, but it’s just not going to feel right. You might experience unexpected crashes, laggy performance, or weird error messages popping up.

    2. If the update fails, Windows might try to roll back to the previous version (which usually happens automatically). This process can take a while and may make you feel like you're stuck waiting for your computer to catch up. It’s kind of annoying because it might mess with your plans for the day when you just want to get stuff done.

    3. In rare cases where the update process corrupts something critical, you may need to back up your data or even consider restoring your system to an earlier point or a fresh install. It’s like needing to call in the professionals after you accidentally flood the kitchen—more work, more time, and maybe even some lost data if you’re not careful.

    4. If all else fails, you might end up needing to download the update manually or apply some fixes you find online or in forums. This can be stressful if you're not super tech-savvy. It’s like trying to fix a leaky sink with just a YouTube tutorial; sometimes it works, and sometimes you’re left with a mess.

If you’re facing that annoying "Windows 11 updates failed for Cumulative Update 24H2" issue, don’t worry – you’re not alone! I’ve been there too, and I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way to solve it without spending a dime. Here’s what you can do to get your system back on track:

    1. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Hiding in your system settings is a neat little tool that can help diagnose and fix update problems.
-Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
-Find the Windows Update troubleshooter and hit that Run button. It’ll check for problems and might even fix them for you.
    2. Windows updates can need some breathing room. Check if you’re running low on storage; if so, clear out some old files or applications you don’t use anymore. You'd be surprised how much space some of those apps are hogging!
    3. If the update is playing hard to get, you can head to the Microsoft Update Catalog website, search for “ Windows 11 updates failed for Cumulative Update 24H2,” and try downloading it manually. This often sidesteps whatever's tripping the automatic update up.
    4. If you have antivirus software running, it can sometimes interfere with updates. You could try disabling it temporarily while you perform the update. Just remember to re-enable it afterward!
    5. If you recently updated something and that caused the update to fail, you can try rolling it back. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and follow the prompts.
