Windows 11 taskbar labels
- Nov 17, 2021
It looks like the perfect way - but it doesn't work here. I set the value to 2 and after restart and then checking it was set to 2 - but still no labels. Do you have any ideas? aBuntobox
MS will never fix it. You need 3rd party like startallback (a few dollars or a nag screen but does more stuff) or the free classic shell or open shell (can't remember which is the new name), which is totally free but misses out on a few features.
I get a proper start menu and taskbar, the good old days:
Photo insertion is broken in this forum (like everything else), you'll have to click the link.

I don't mind the new Start tbh, just the taskbar.

drlightman I don't understand how anyone can use the new start menu. There's nothing in it but adverts and "suggestions" involving random documents you recently opened. To get a program, you either have to pin it or find it alphabetically. Where the hell is the most useful part, most recently used apps?

sunnyrio after playing around with Win11 settings mine isn't that bad:

I've removed all widgets, news, crappity crap of course. I'm still configuring this new laptop, but for now I can live with that.
The taskbar is the major issue, I can't fathom how nobody said anything during the testing phase and development of Win11.

It's not that people do not speak up, it's that MS doesn't give a rat's **bleep** about the public or their needs. Haven't you noticed that all they have been trying to do since Window 7 is "make it pretty" (even if it is not functional)? Look at the Office pack: Excel has been lacking some direly needed fuctions that Lotus 123 had (and could be implemented), removed others that were useful, and hid a bunch of them, regardkess if how much people complained opening tickets, etc. And Office 365, how many functions is it missing because it is web-based? How many icons can you fit on the QAT compared to Office 2010? Why, because it looks prettier? They have the insider program just to make believe that they listen... just to fool people into thinking that they care. In the end, they do whatever they want, releasing and selling (not cheaply) software that we are relatively forced to use (unless the world changed to Macs or Ubuntu or...?). And that "being forced to use" is exactly the reason why they don't give a rat's **bleep**. $$$$$.

- sunnyrioApr 23, 2023Brass ContributorThey need to put the start menu back. It currently looks like a webpage of a newspaper. 99% adverts and impossible to find the content. Most recently used apps, about the only thing I ever use.
