Windows 11 taskbar labels
- Nov 17, 2021
It looks like the perfect way - but it doesn't work here. I set the value to 2 and after restart and then checking it was set to 2 - but still no labels. Do you have any ideas? aBuntobox
"I'm a federal employee on a government laptop"
Funny - we are in a public forum and it resembles advertising from other companies.
Anyone can write what they want -> but is it true?
In one thread, the scammer wrote that he is the CEO ... , to inspire trust, unfortunately you always need to have limited trust -> I ask everyone for it.
If you are visually impaired, do you use high contrast?
Do you have scaling magnification (non-standard), what level?
How will high contrast etc work for the nonsense of silly little icons with no words? They annoy me and I have perfect eyesight.

Check this out, I'm running a lot of science tasks:

You mean a persistent device? As in the monitor is assumed to be coming back.
I find the same stupid thing happens on my main computer which has 4 monitors and 1 TV. The TV behaves differently, it doesn't come out of standby like the monitors do when I come back to my computer, I have to turn it on manually. This makes windows think I have one less screen, and moves every single application I had running to suit! For my problem (unattended headless PCs), most work ok, for the odd one that gets annoyed at having no monitor, I bought some dummy monitors (an HDMI plug with nothing connected to it, and a chip inside which emulates a 4K screen). They only cost £5 on Ebay.

Does the taskbar still only go at the bottom? I use startallback on all machines to replace the MS rubbish, so I have no idea what the windows taskbar is like. I stopped using it after Windows 7. I just can't stand the new look, it's like a Mac!
Not sure what you mean by limiting things to the system. Startallback and many utilities to monitor CPU usage etc work fine and always have. - RobertPatricianFeb 06, 2023Copper ContributorWhat windows also needs is the ability to set something as a non-persistent device. I use a KVM switch to flip my webcam, microphone, keyboard and mouse between two computers. However when I do so, each computer thinks that those devices are GONE FOREVER and tries to find alternatives, like changing to the internal webcam and microphone on the laptop. I'd like to be able to tell it 'IF this unplugs, just act like it's still there but getting no signal." Same for monitors to fix your issue.

Yes, this is the right way to provide feedback, in July 2021 I already wrote that there is a problem with the taskbar, but the Zero Trust principle caused the blocking and removal of processes that had direct access to system tasks (to limit the scope of the attack).
Win11 taskbar only at the bottom of the screen - it needs to be changed! - Microsoft Community Hub

I have done so, I selected to add it to something similar, and it's not showing up as anything I've posted yet, but I assume it will at some point. I'd never heard of the feedback hub. Do they really listen?

I like this discussion - your response is constructive, but I don't work at Microsoft, please add these screenshots in the Feedback Hub App
- sunnyrioFeb 06, 2023Brass ContributorI'm surprised Windows works on a monitor like that. I have 7 computers, 6 of them don't have monitors. I access them all remotely from this one, but sometimes they get confused without a real monitor and revert to 640*480. Most dialog boxes don't fit on the screen, so I can't reach the OK button! Or they really screw up and wrap on top of themselves, like the system settings do, including the one to change the resolution!

Deleted That's not the problem under discussion. As I've said, I have perfect vision, but I absolutely detest this utter nonsense:
Why are the running programs so similar to the shortcuts? Just that tiny little bar underneath! Why do they expect everyone to remember what the icon for each program looks like? How do I open another program? The start menu is just full of news and weather forecasts! Now compare that to mine, where you can easily see what's going on:
The links to start programs are... in the start menu where they belong. The most often used automatically goes to the top. Running programs are on the taskbar, with English words I can read!
- RobertPatricianFeb 06, 2023Copper ContributorAbsolutely, I have a hard time telling if a program is running even if I'm looking directly at the icon.
We should make the UI engineers at Microsoft have to spend one day a week on a 480p monitor. - DeletedFeb 06, 2023
This is really the appearance of the screen for people with low vision, it can be enlarged, in Windows10, and Windows11.
- sunnyrioFeb 06, 2023Brass ContributorEven the indicator the program is running and not just a link to it, is too small to notice. I like to know what programs I have open! This is a basic requirement of an OS!
- RobertPatricianFeb 06, 2023Copper ContributorOh what's more, the indicator on the icon that you have a new email is so tiny that I have to specifically look for it. A tiny corner of an already tiny icon changing color as the indicator that my attention is needed? Not good.
