Windows 11 Slow system performance and lagging
Your PC is lagging during light tasks, so identify which resource is saturated instead of changing settings blindly. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Task Manager, and sort Processes by CPU, Memory, then Disk while the slowdown is happening. Note any process that remains high; update, repair, or remove that app. Next open Settings > Windows Update, install Windows and optional driver updates, and restart. In Settings > System > Storage, check free space and run Storage Sense; low system-drive space can slow Windows. In Task Manager > Startup apps, disable nonessential high-impact items, leaving security, audio, graphics, and touchpad utilities enabled. Run Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Quick scan. If Task Manager shows no software process but memory stays near full or disk usage stays at 100%, record those readings and the device's RAM, storage type, and model. That evidence distinguishes a background-app problem from storage or hardware limits.
