Windows 11 installation assistant not working. Got stuck at 0% when downloading Windows 11
- Mar 18, 2025
I wasted a couple of hours when working with Windows 11 Installation Assistant. If the problem was not fixed or you are looking for an alternative way to install Windows 11, go and try this method instead:

First, create a bootable USB drive, boot from it and start installing Windows 11.
If the Windows 11 Installation Assistant is not working for you, there are several alternative methods to upgrade your Windows 10 installation to Windows 11. Here are some steps you can take to install Windows 11 without using the Installation Assistant:
1. Use Windows 11 Installation Media
b. Create a Bootable USB:
- Insert a USB flash drive (at least 8 GB).
- Run the Media Creation Tool and select "Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC."
- Follow the prompts to select language, edition, and architecture (64-bit).
- Choose "USB flash drive" and wait for the tool to create the bootable drive.
c. Install Windows 11:
- Once the USB drive is ready, restart your PC and boot from the USB drive (you may need to change boot order in BIOS).
- Follow the installation prompts to install Windows 11.
2. Upgrade via Windows Update
If you prefer not using the assistant:
1. Check for Updates:
- Open Settings (press Windows + I).
- Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click on Check for updates and see if the Windows 11 upgrade is available. Install it if it appears.
3. Download Windows 11 ISO File
You can also manually download the Windows 11 ISO:
a. Download ISO:
- Visit the Windows 11 download page.
- Select the Download button under the "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)" section.
- Choose Windows 11 and click on Download.
b. Install from ISO:
- Once downloaded, right-click the ISO file and select "Mount."
- Open the mounted drive from This PC.
- Run the setup.exe file to start the upgrade process.
