Windows 11 Feature Request: Notepad as Chromium Wrapped App

I suggest Windows 11 Notepad be built with WebView2 / CEF (Chromium), with stripped components for efficiency and HTML/CSS/JS UI animations.

No, please! I'm looking for the opposite! WebView applications are like piranhas that devour system resources. They consume all the RAM they can. Notepad is fine as it is; it's a lightweight app, so why ruin it? I think programmers are just too lazy to develop a properly optimized app for the system. 🙌

  • Hi Nicholas, interesting idea. WebView2 is useful for web-style UI, but Notepad’s value is that it is fast, simple, and lightweight. If Microsoft ever moved in that direction, startup time, memory use, offline reliability, and accessibility would need to stay the priority.

You serious? I mean why do we need a notepad that runs inside a web browser.. it uses too much memory and can be buggy or lag to use.. a native app is already good enough.
