Why is everyone hating on Windows 11?
I’m genuinely curious why Windows 11 seems to get so much hate in some communities.
I understand some of the common criticisms, such as Copilot, Microsoft account requirements, preinstalled apps, telemetry, and the new context menu. But from my perspective, many of these things can be worked around or customized. For example, you can bypass the account setup, remove unnecessary software, use local accounts, and tweak parts of the UI.
That’s why I’m wondering: is the dislike mainly about Microsoft’s direction and defaults, or are there deeper technical or usability issues I’m missing?
For context, I use different devices: a ThinkPad, a MacBook, and a windows gaming PC.
I’ve been using Windows since XP, and even though I like macOS a lot, I sometimes miss the Windows experience. Maybe it’s partly nostalgia.
I’m not trying to start a Mac vs. Windows debate. I’m just interested in understanding the perspective of people who strongly dislike Windows 11.
What are your main reasons?

I have an Acer Predator computer. It's about 5 years old. Windows for some reason decided to change to an EEFI boot system, something I have had on my 20-year-old Ubuntu computer for some time. Windows did NOT supply information on how to achieve this, or even an installer. They just said it was necessary. I did everything I could find to get it done, but in the end my computer wouldn't even boot up. I took it to the Geek Squad and they simply reinstalled Windows, which resulted in being able to boot back into windows but at a cost. I have to spam F12 to choose the boot menu, which then allows me to tell the computer to boot using the Windows Boot Manager. Now windows, every time it provides updates, needs to reboot twice to install them, so I am spamming F12 a second time around to finish installation. Windows always pissed me off because I spent hoards of money getting the computers, software, and games, then each time it updates to a new version none of the software or games I had work any more. Ubuntu still runs even dos programs, the office suites are free (good because I use them at home, not at work), and it tells me everything I need to know about how to write programs even. Windows has always been about making millions from people who don't. By the way, the Geek Squad found out after "fixing" my computer that the hardware was insufficient for an EEFI boot.
With over 1 billion Windows 11 users, you have one reply... Not sure people hate Windows 11 as much as they say they do.
Its extremly buggy. File explorer doesn't open 50% [If it doesnt it wont till you restart.], Settings dont open 50% of the time. [If it doesnt it wont till you restart]
Is your Windows 11 an upgrade from Windows 10? A preinstalled version? Or a fresh install? Not picking; just want to know if the bugs are across the board or issues with an upgrade.
